TikTok: one final attempt
As you know – in fact, as I’ve been banging on about for far too long – the new book, HOW HARD CAN IT BE?, comes out on 1st June. I know I’ve said in the past that I just can’t do the whole social media thing but this time around and because it’s a new book rather than the promotion of an existing title, I thought I’d give it one last go. Two things make this particularly difficult for me: I’m pretty sure that I lack both the talent and the imagination to make it work.
However, most writers are a bit like gamblers – there’s a large element of hope and optimism in our psychological makeup. So, even though I’ve failed miserably in the past, just like a gambler who has found a tenner in the gutter, I’m going straight to the bookies to blow it all. Because I’m not just placing a bet, I’m placing the winning bet. Of course I am.
The same is true with each book: we hope that it’s better than the last and that it will be more successful – until we’re proved wrong. But, days before the launch, this is not yet the case and we can still live in hope. This is the breakthrough book.
So…I’m going to give TikTok etc another go. This time, I’m going to pair my efforts with an attempt at using Amazon Ads. This is something for a whole different blog post – and if it works, I may indeed put one out – but suffice it to say that it’s a complicated matter involving flexible bidding for exposure to potential buyers that may produce nothing at all. Worse, it may produce nothing at all and turn out to be expensive. I’ll let you know. what happens. Fingers crossed!
As always, happy writing!
